Purpose

Why we write

The purpose, or why you write, is the goal of the document. There are different purposes a document can have which include: persuading, teaching, informing, and entertaining.

All four of the major assignments had different purposes. For the memorandum, the purpose was to persuade and inform our audience. We did this by bringing attention to a problem CCNY students were facing and suggesting a solution. For the technical description, the purpose was to teach and inform our audience on how to use a certain item and the history behind it. For this assignment I chose the tape measure, the purpose of my technical description was to inform my audience, DIYers and people with little to no experience using tape measures, how to use and properly read a tape measure. For the lab report, the purpose was to inform my audience, homeowners and tenants that are trying to save some money on their electricity bills, about the energy efficiency of different light bulbs. The purpose of the engineering proposal was to inform and persuade our audience to accept the proposal to install ECOncrete RipRaps along the coast to prevent coastal erosion in Indian River County.

Below I have attached my purpose from my lab reports reflection essay.
