Exigence

Issue or situation that leads to demands for rhetoric speech or writing

Out of all the rhetorical elements this was definitely my weakest one since I never knew what exigence was. At first I thought purpose and exigence was the same thing since they are closely related. Overtime, I finally understood the difference between the two. While purpose is what you’re trying to do, exigence is why you’re doing it. For example, the exigence of my lab report was to find out what lightbulb would help my parents with the electricity bill.

Even though it was something new, it’s definitely one of my favorites. Exigence would make me really think about what and why I was doing something and make me more engaged in the work.
